This is OK, you might say a return to form, but it's more of a return to what the fans want but even then it's just like a good TV movie. It starts with a little bit of a political assassination akin to Star Trek VI, but rather than be a basis for the plot it's largely forgotten about.

So it's not a good thriller like The Undiscovered Country was. So what do fans want? Fights. Fights with laaazerrrs and the Enterprise getting beat up but ultimately winning with some outlandish outmaneuver (and what a maneuver!) against some aliens in their ship that will have a cloaking device (everyone else has one but us).

Well all that is there but doesn't quite pack the punch as previous Trek space battles have seen. I liked who the villain was but I don't think his character was explored well enough, there was little explanation about anything that raised a question in the plot.

Over all its good and certainly easier to watch than say half of the Treks before it.
