Abrams takes away almost every aspect that made the first film great. We have action that doesn't add any purpose or significance to the film. Our characters go through the same exact beats as they did in the first.

The only aspects in the film that live up to expectations would be the visual effects, and the villain. But then again every actor seems to be sleepwalking through the seemingly endless film. Star Trek Into Darkness is a pointless exercise in making an insignificant sequel.
