Review of Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) by Brian T — 04 May 2015
A worthy successor to Abrams 2009 reboot. This time Abrams doesn't have to waste time introducing all of the characters and worrying about how they come together, so he packs it chock full of blistering action from the first frame to the end credits. It's an exhilerating ride.
Benedict Cumberbatch is rivetting as the mysterious "Harrison". The rest of the cast does a fine job, and they all seem more naturalistic this time around. A few plot gaffs aside, I can't imagine anyone not being thrilled by a film that packs in as much excitement and wonder as this film does. Even Abrams various odes to the original Trek series are refreshing, while still being a beautiful homage. Of the two blockbusters I've seen this summer, Iron Man 3 being the other, I found this to be the more satisfying of the two.
