Review of Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) by Matthew R — 14 Dec 2015
Pandering crap that believes its audience is too stupid to enjoy good writing, or too attached to the past to go five minutes without a big neon sign saying, "hey look were star trek!" It fails to establish an identity of its own and is an insult to the much better 2009 movie, and the franchise in general.
Mindless action followed by mindless action, followed yet by more mindless action may be watchable, but it isn't good writing, and rehashing plot arcs from the previous film that seemed well resolved is a crutch at best.
Into Darkness while certainly being a watchable film isn't a good film, and sadly is extremely forgettable over all. Even some of the best actors around can't fix bad writing, and star trek has certainly never been an exception to that rule.
2/5.
