Review of Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) by Sourabh M — 26 Apr 2008
Star Trek TNG will always be my favourite version of the franchise, and this film basically plays out like an extended version of one of the television episodes, but with a bigger budget for battle scenes and things of that nature.
Data has mysteriously malfunctioned while investigating an Eden-like planet with peaceful artisan inhabitants. When the Enterprise goes to investigate and rescue their crewmate they discover a plot between a Starfleet Admiral and a gruesome alien race to take over the planet, which is actually some sort of fountain of youth.
As always with Star Trek, the story comes before the action and effects, and what you get is a satisfying one. Non-fans of the show will probably say it is boring, but I enjoyed it immensely, and Jonathan Frakes, Commander Riker, did a fine job directing it.
There are some humourous parts, typical of the show. I laughed out loud a few times. A good movie and well worthy of the Star Trek seal of approval.
