Review of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) by Ryan G — 29 Jan 2012
While it is an important part of the "Genesis Trilogy", it has a somewhat lack-luster feel. There are grand notions here - Spock being found alive... combat with Klingons on the big screen... the destruction of the Enterprise... it seems as though it was prepped and filmed more for the small screen. Much of the film feels claustrophobic; this is not limited to the portions of the film set on Genesis - filmed on a sound stage. Little about this film seems BIG at all. Quite a change after the amazing work of Wrath of Khan.
It has enjoyable moments. "I'm glad you're on our side!" "Don't call my 'tinny'!" "Up your shaft." "How could you be deaf with ears like THAT?" Still, don't expect to go to this Trek when you want one of the best.
