Review of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) by Jonathan Y — 02 Jul 2008
After the groundbreaking 'Wrath of Khan', this third entry in the film franchise can't help but seem like a bit of a letdown. It's plenty decent for a 'Trek' film, featuring a clever story, decent acting and (mostly) passable special effects.
.. but it also stumbles a bit in the pacing department, while Nimoy (the director) demonstrates adequate but unremarkable skill behind the camera. At this point, the series left behind the stand-alone story concept and became a series of interconnected story arcs, which left plenty of room to develop multi-film plot lines but also left non-Trek fans feeling like uninvited outsiders.
