The first Star Trek film to exclusively star the cast of the "Next Generation" series, "First Contact" is a fun Star Trek film, even if it touches on ground already covered in "The Voyage Home" in terms of time travelling to save the world.

Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden and Marina Sirtis, "First Contact" tells the story of a Borg invasion that threatens to wipe the Human Empire out of history, and brings up some awkward questions regarding the past experiences of Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Unlike Kirk, Picard does not often get a chance to stretch his range into moral ambiguity, with his straight-and-narrow approach more reminiscent of Spock than the former Captain. But this expands the range, and shows the immense power that Stewart has as an actor (something William Shatner could never boast).

This movie won't make you think too deeply (unless you really want to delve into the Moby Dick parallels, in which case, more power to you), but as escapist sci-fi, it's definitely a keeper.
