Review of Star Trek: First Contact (1996) by I Don't Know W — 28 Jun 2011
One of the problems with Star Trek films is over-reliance on plot points that were introduced in the TV series. As a result, it makes this film more difficult to fully appreciate. That said, it was an alright film.
The story, while choppy, did deliver an emotional, themed plot. Unfortunately, the two plots in the film do not intersect until the very end, where it feels like a cop-out brings them together.
The Borg are definitely creepy, and the creation of their queen was necessary to create a main antagonist. Since I haven't watched much tNG, I can't comment on whether it ruins the storyline for the show.
The acting was not as polished as the later film Nemesis, and I was disappointed in Mariana Sirtis and Gates McFadden in particular. Patrick Stewart, while good, was not at his best either.
Not a terrible film, but not terrific.
