Review of Star Trek: First Contact (1996) by Aj V — 05 Jul 2011
I can honestly say that this is the best movie from The Next Generation of Star Trek films. While I do have to admit that I am slightly biased to the Original Series crew, First Contact is one of the best films in the franchise.
The premise is that a cyborg zombie race known as The Borg is trying to invade Earth and control the planet. The Enterprise-E, captained by Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) defies orders and manages to defeat the Borg spaceship while a small Borg sphere travels back in time to 2063 to stop first contact between humanity and an alien race and lay the foundations for the Federation and Starfleet.
This was the film that gave the Star Trek films a new get up and go of life after the rather ok film of Star Trek Generations. The story, acting, editing, music and sound are top notch. Extra kudos go to Jonny Frakes who made his film directorial debut with this film. The direction of this film is top notch. Plus the special effects don't spoil the storyline...In fact, it helps the storyline along rather than water it down like most modern films. Also, the cameos of Deep Space Nine and Voyager characters are just the little touchings on the First Contact cake.
So go and see it if you want to see the begginings of what is the juggernaught that is Star Trek or if you just want to watch a decent movie.
