If Star Trek 3 were Star Trek 1, I question if there would have been a 2 and 3. No emotional connection. No clear understanding of the enemy, his weapon, or his motivation--other than he was wronged by the Federation and wanted revenge? Overall a lack of adventure and excitement.

I wonder how much of that was due to Abrams not guiding it.
