Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Matt E — 24 Mar 2017
Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin and starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban.
Recommended for hardcore Trekkies. A C+.
Surprisingly I don't like this movie. I was very disappointed.
The acting is good, the chemistry between the Enterprise crew is good and heartwarming.
The first 20 minutes of the movie is intriguing and mysterious, with a great action sequence involving the Enterprise.
But after that I was bored with the movie. There were no more thrilling and heart-pounding action like in Star Trek (2009) or Into The Darkness. In fact, the action was surprisingly lame and lacklustre.
The plot is too simple and predictable, the villain is weak..not as strong as Khan in Darkness or even Nero in Star Trek.
At least two scene transitions felt very choppy...as if some integral scenes are cut from the final product.
IMHO, the worst Star Trek movie of the new timeline. Disappointed. A C+.
