Review of Star Trek (2009) by Nicholas F — 20 Feb 2014
In this fresh and highly entertaining film, J. J. Abrams breathes new life into the Star Trek phenomenon. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are perfectly cast as the legendary characters of James Kirk and Spock.
I found it extremely uncanny how both Pine and Quinto resemble younger versions of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, and are capable of embodying their mannerisms. One thing that stands out about this film is that it is not a reboot or a remake of the previous Star Trek films, but that it represents an alternate universe with the same characters, yet still acknowledging the primary universe as evident by the presence of Leonard Nimoy.
I thought that Eric Bana was incredible as the villainous Nero, who is determined to destroy the Vulcan race. The action and visual effects are beyond amazing and the climax is intense and heart racing.
Bravo to J. J. Abrams for successfully bringing Star Trek back to the big screen. I have the feeling that this new rendition of Star Trek will definitely live long and prosper for many years to come.
