Review of Star Trek (2009) by Thomas A — 17 Dec 2014
Abrams reaps all the benefits of Roddenberry's hard work, a fully developed universe with fully developed characters, alien races, technology, etc., plus an enormous built in fan base. But by using time travel as a reset button, he bears no responsibility for keeping the story straight.
This is lazy writing. He takes no risks. He contributes nothing original except the two dimensional antagonist and a completely gratuitous romance between Uhura and Spock. For an example of a reboot done well, see Battlestar Galactica.
