Review of Star Trek (2009) by Greg M — 27 Jun 2015
JJ Abrams might have just given this franchise a lift for a long time to come with this movie. If there was one qualm with it, it was the movie felt way too short. It had my attention from start to finish and when it was over, I was wishing for something more.
This movie is a lot more fun than probably any other Trek film. The first scene is an emotional action ride that sets the tone for the rest of the movie and never lets up. When the title came, the theater itself got excited and the guy next to me was probably on the edge of his seat for the entire movie.
The characters were well cast as the crew we know and love. Pine made an excellent Kirk, and Quinto almost seemed perfect as Spock. It was great to see Nimoy's Spock too as a way to pass the torch.
Without giving too much away, this is a Trek film for fans, and for people of a new generation. It was such a fun ride and while some of what happened is unsettling, it opens the door to new possibilities and new ideas for the future. This is a great reboot, and a great movie in it's own right.
