Review of Star Trek (2009) by Matt S — 10 Aug 2015
A sequel/prequel/reboot. All three describe this movie. In the most ingenuous way to reboot a franchise, JJ Abrams and company found a way. When a Romulan from the year 2387 arrives in the year 2233, he unknowingly creates an alternate reality parallel to the original one.
This sets up a new history for the classic characters we have come to know. With new fates, the crew of the USS Enterprise must stop Nero from destroying Earth with a little help from an older Spock from the future.
This film has one of the best casts that I can imagine. All fill their roles perfectly. They could have bordered on parody but they treat the characters with the respect they deserve. The action is great, the music is top notch.
The effects are amazing. With an alternate reality to explore the future is bright for the Star Trek franchise.
