Review of Standard Operating Procedure (2008) by Joseph T — 10 Oct 2008
Errol Morris's documentary on the Abu Ghraib torture photographs. Mostly featuring interviews (in Morris's stright to camera style) with the soldiers and military who were there at the time. Not the condemnatory anti-Bush film it might sound, this ends up almost as a philosophical discussion on the nature of photography and it's relationship with reality.
This is somewhat disappointing if you want the film to basically show Donald Rumsfeld to be a war criminal but it does give a clearer idea of what was actually going on in Iraq. Raises more questions than answers but worth a watch.
