Review of Standard Operating Procedure (2008) by Skippy S — 25 May 2008
I've thought a lot about this movie since I saw it last week. There is a lot of justifiable criticism of the movie and the things it doesn't achieve. But I'm still impressed why what it did achieve. We hear from those in the infamous photographs in their own words. Each one seem puzzled as to how they could have ended up in that situation, they condemn it, but no-one seems willing to take actual responsibility for it.
You get the feeling that even this evil, and it was evil, became day to day routine not out of sociopathic lack of compassion, but out of accepting the idea that this was the way things work in war.
You also get the feeling that this was not nearly the worst of what was going on...but there aren't photographs of that.
