Review of Stand Up Guys (2012) by Sarfaraz A — 25 Jan 2013
Stand Up Guys crime-comedy film directed by Fisher Stevens. Starring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Alan Arkin. The film received one nomination Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for the song by Jon Bon Jovi "Not Running Anymore".
Three grumpy old friends Val (Pacino), Doc (Walken), and Richard Hirsch (Arkin) parted by the wrinkles of the years. After spending 28 years in prison, Val reunites with Doc, who's been contracted by Claphands to kill Val to avenge his son's accidental death at the hands of Val. The trio want to spend the last night by living it to the fullest - they dance out in club with (rather) young lady, bribing Dj to play old school song - frequent trip to brothel and petty robberies and break-ins.
Stand Up Guys is shallow story, boosted by weightage of comedic-acting from Pacino - but then again you come to like the movie when the two (Doc - Val) start bashing 'round few nuts. Overall the movie is complete disappointment and reaches poorly written climax.
