Review of Stand Up Guys (2012) by Lynda G — 09 Feb 2013
The pace of the movie was slow, but this matched perfecly the life status of the main characters Doc and Val. It therefore felt appropriate. The movie deals with three old-time crooks who still behave as stand-up guys in that they still follow the standards of their earlier era.
I found it great to see old stars who actually portrayed characters of their real age. As a mature adult who is also confronting the aging process I found the movie provided much food for thought. I found it hilarious that Doc had such extensive knowledge about medications for heart and stomach problems, and when he complained about ridiculously high co-pays.
The ending made pefect sense to me. The way they chose to handle the dilemma of "the contract" seemed to be exactly in character with the stand-up philosophy of Doc and Val. Simply put, hubby and I really enjoyed this movie.
