Review of Stand Up Guys (2012) by Dave G — 09 Jun 2013
Even with a sub-par script and a fairly empty plot, Walken and Pacino still have that reckless comical edge that can turn almost any film into something worth while. Surprisingly, the humor is mostly childish sex jokes, but they mostly work because of the charisma by the leads.
It's also fairly hit and miss on the sentiment, but when it does work the movie can be surprisingly poignant and philosophical about death. The lack of effort is fairly noticeable, but Stand Up Guys lets you reminisce about a time when Pacino and Walken were huge stars, and shows they have a little spunk left in them in their old age.
