Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Ryan G — 18 Jun 2011
Although the story is well told it is also very predictable. I knew as soon as I saw Ace he was going to be the one to fight them for the Body. When they are crossing the bridge and vern says " but if the train comes there wont be any place to go" it is so obvious that the train is on the way.
There is one scene in particular that I deem unnecessary, the pie eating contest scene,I think that it would have been just as interesting to have Gordie sit there and tell the story. The performances are all pretty good however I don't think that Keifer Sutherland was right for the role, he just diden't come off as a tough guy like he is modernly.
River Phoenix and Will Wheaton probably deliver the best performances however Corey Feldman is also quite good, Vern was just the chunky kid that everyone seems to think all groups of friends have. Stand by Me is a good film however some scenes are unnecessary and the plot is a bit predictable, It is far from great however I can see why it has been so acclaimed and loved.
