Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Justin T — 05 Aug 2012
Easily my favorite film. This was put together so well that it has demonstrated the emotions that come from friendship. It is an emotional film all together. It shows the values that come from your friends when you spend time with them.
I will mention Phoenix and Phoenix only. Phoenix's performance this film is how we all remember him. My mom says Phoenix reminds her of me and in a way I agree with her (though I could never pull off a performance like he did) The scene with Gordie and Chris by the tree is one of the most meaningful and heart stirring scenes that have ever came from a movie it just makes the viewer's eye too weak to block a tear.
In the dvd special feature documentary Reiner mentioned how River Phoenix had reflected on his life before the scene was shot (Reiner told him to do this) and a lot of people know Phoenix went through some horrible things in his life and I believe that scene with Will Wheaton was years of built up emotion all released in a movie scene a brilliant performance in general just unforgettable.
RIP River Phoenix.
