Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Lo & — 26 Nov 2012
"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?" That line did it in for me. In some nostalgic (planned or not) sense, I was the same way. I really don't know many people who can't say they didn't have the best time with their friends at this age.
The sincerity which River added to the role of Chris Chambers was pretty darn touching, despite the "Tough-Guy" persona. Hell, the entire cast did an amazing job, even for a flim revolving around mostly twelve year olds taking a 2-day hike to see a dead body for the first time.
From my POV: Friendship, Innocence, and Loyalty is what this movie is really built on. Also, which is a fresh take and nice to see in a coming-of age story, it's not based on just sex but the every day problems and joys of growing up.
This is basically some of Stephen King's best work. This movie is sure to reach through to generations...xx.
