Review of Stalag 17 (1953) by Alex G — 31 Jul 2007
The clear inspiration for Hogan's Heroes. Alternates uneasily between light-hearted antics and torture/murder. Interesting that Billy Wilder, whose family was murdered in Auschwitz, could take such a light-hearted view of Nazis.
It's been said that Holden won the Oscar because he should have won for Sunset Boulevard. That's probably true - not sure what about his performance is Oscar-worthy.
