Review of Stalag 17 (1953) by Joe R — 14 Nov 2015
Another Holocaust movie set in the concentration camp, only this time it's well crafted as an involving spy game with intense black humour. With the presence of Otto Preminger, Robert Strauss as 'Animal' and the seemingly jolly German guards, Stalag 17 makes you forget you are actually witnessing the Nazi atrocities.
The plot may seem simple in contemporary times, but the wise Billy Wilder's talent is well showcased by blending the seemingly incompatible torture and humour without awkwardness.
