Review of Stalag 17 (1953) by John W — 27 Dec 2008
This turned to be quite a treat and fitting for watching it on Christmas. The film has a strong, original story backed by strong performances led by the great William Holden. When an escape attempt goes wrong, the Pows in Stalag 17 are convinced they have a snitch in their bunker.
The obvious suspect is Holden's character who deals with the Nazi officers for little odds and ends. The story does not intend to surprise you, in fact you find out who the snitch is before anyone else does.
While that bothered me a touch, I fell in love with the characters so quickly that I wasn't bothered by it.
