Review of Stalag 17 (1953) by Ashley S — 21 Jun 2010
Great war drama. Set in a German prison camp, following the lives of the American Sergeants in Barracks #4. The men think there is an informer among them, but is there? And if there is, are they right about who it is? This film keeps you guessing most of the way.
Even once you do know the answers, it's hard to figure out how it'll be resolved or if it even can be. It's suspenseful and can be very tense because lives are at stake and you can't be sure who to trust, just like the characters in the film.
The way it's shot, crams you inside the barracks with the guys and inserts you into their situations, suspicions and frustrations. There are several comedic breaks and sometimes the comedy can be a little over the top but overall, this is a very good film.
Good for anyone who likes WWII era war films or dramas that emphasizes the struggle to rely on or trust each other.
