Review of Stalag 17 (1953) by Peter P — 22 Aug 2010
Stalog 17 is an ok movie, but its main problem is that it does not know what it wants to be. It is at times a parody of German prisoner of war camps, with kooky characters and gags, and then the Nazis start killing people, and it becomes a story of intrigue and escape, but it never full commits to either, so it feels a little mixed up.
When it comes to the acting, it again has the same problem, there are some really good performances, but then some terrible acting to go along with it. As for the actual escape, that turns out to be the best part of the film, with the whole traitor in the ranks angle, but there is just not enough of it for me to have rated it higher.
