Review of Stalag 17 (1953) by Jordan P — 07 Jan 2019
I can see why William Holden won an Academy Award for his performance. He doesn't seem like he's playing a part at all, but that he is his character. The script is great, the suspense is great, and every action in the film serves a purpose.
There is a lot of good humor in this film, and also it touches on why jumping to conclusions can lead to big mistakes. Stalag 17 sits well in the company of all other POW films, and it's a great WWII period piece as well.
Billy Wilder is a master of cinema.
