Review of Stake Land (2010) by Cj C — 20 Aug 2011
Post apocalyptic movies are really a dime a dozen but every now and then you get a diamond in the rough and this is one of them. Stake Land is a low budget movie that really makes good use of it's small budget to show us a country ravaged by vampires, a particularly beastly type of vamp.
The two leads, Martin and Mister, must also deal with a racist skinhead group called The Brotherhood as well as humans who have turned to cannibalism. Director Jim Mickle crafted a very atmospheric and very character driven movie that fans of vampires/the undead and post apocalyptic settings should definitely check out.
While so many movies have gigantic budgets with crappy stories, this little movie delivers good entertainment on a tiny budget. Bravo to the little guy!
