Review of Stake Land (2010) by Chuck N — 10 Jun 2011
Not sure what's inspiring the over the top good reviews for this film, but as far as apocalyptic zombie vampire movies go, Stake Land kept my interest. It was reminiscent of The Road [which I've read, but not seen yet], and all the obvious horror genre influences.
Props for creating a gritty and convincing post apocalypse landscape on a low budget, but some of the acting, pacing and especially the special effects reminded me of an 80's film, like Lost Boys, or Fright Night, but not in a reverential way.
The result? Just when my suspension of disbelief would start to go away, I'd get that feeling I'd been here before. It was an all around decent film though.
