Review of Stake Land (2010) by Elgan D — 19 Jun 2011
Wow, this was surprisingly very good. Cross The Road with a vampire flick and you have Stake Land. What makes it so good though are the characters. They are all believable and sympathetic, they are all acted very well and all play a part in the film. Connor Paolo is excellent as the young Martin and Nick Damici as Mister. The Vampires are used sparingly but are vicious and just as dangerous are the Brotherhood, a group of right wing religious zealots. They could have come across poorly, but they weren't just written as a little tin pot group and you could believe how they came about.
If anything lets the film down, it is one scene towards the end, I won't say anymore as it'll spoil, but after all the good character and plot, this scene is just too video game/hollywood.
Overall though, this is really is an excellent film and I highly recommend it.
