Review of Stake Land (2010) by Alan L — 26 Nov 2011
A grim, but more entertaining and gruesome take on 'The Road'. The 'Vamps' may be savage and bloodthirsty, but it's the religious cults, ruling ever increasing areas of land, that are the most dangerous threat.
A good genre film that nods to 'The Evil Dead' (old school physical make-up effects) and John Carpenter's 'Escape From New York' & 'Vampires'. The score is good too, with a hint of the minimalistic throbbing bass from Morricone's 'The Thing'.
