Review of Stake Land (2010) by Allan C — 19 May 2012
Terrific post apocalyptic vampire tale of an orphaned teen making his way through the remnants of civilization with a mysterious protector only known as "Mister". It's a great set-up, that seems closer to a zombie scenario than your typical vampire film, but the end result will not be for all horror tastes.
Director/writer Jim Mickle is more focused on creating atmosphere and a bleak vision than he is in crafting a film with a strong narrative storyline. If you go into the film not expecting a fast paced post apocalyptic thriller, but are looking for a moody, episodic, deliberately paced road film, you should be quite pleased with the film.
I liked this one quite a lot.
