Review of Stake Land (2010) by Sgt. C — 12 Mar 2014
(38%).
An adequate end-of-the-world horror drama that has a battle on its hands being top dog of this increasing crowded sub-genre, and sadly it fails. And like the wondering characters in the movie there's just not enough substance or aim to anything that happens, it's all a little bit thin and a little bit pointless. Action junkies won't exactly love it either as there's not much of it to go round, and everyone else won't be bowled over by the lack of tension or the meandering plot. On the plus side it is more enjoyable than the similar "The road" which was a fine yet very depressing film, as this has it's lighter parts away from constant glumness, and it is worth a look with its good direction and decent performances, but I'd doubt many people would want to watch it any more than once.
