Review of Stake Land (2010) by Brandon W — 30 Nov 2016
Jim Mickle's Stake Land is a great vampire movie that shows that vampires can still be creepy. The plot is really nothing new and is more or less a vampire version of The Walking Dead in terms of getting to a destination that the characters need to go in season 4 and 5, but the execution of it is pretty good and it got me interested to see where it's going.
It gives enough character development that I want the characters to go through the vampire apocalypse. The effects are good, and the writing from Jim Mickle and Nick Damci is well written. It's well acted, and the atmosphere is effectively creepy.
Some of the scares are good, but some of them ended ineffective. As is, Stake Land is probably one of the scariest vampire films I've seen that makes me appreciate Jim Mickle as a director and co-writer.
