Review of Stage Fright (1950) by Brian R — 03 Mar 2009
Alastair Sim aside, there is some pretty awful acting going on in this film. Sim's commodore applauds his daughter Jane Wyman on her performance in getting Marlene Dietrich to incriminate herself (or so they suppose).
All I can say is he must have been watching someone else. Richard Todd is so wooden that I can easily imagine my Dad making an item of furniture out of him. There are some nice touches and some good ideas though, such as the false flashback at the start (which was very controversial when the film was released) and the climactic scene under the stage at the theatre is very well done.
