Review of Stage Beauty (2004) by Adam K — 07 Jun 2009
This fim is filled with lots of gender confusion and cross dressing and other good stuff. Billy Crudup plays the nastiest, pettiest girl in the film. It was edgy and engaging for much of the film, though the ending left a strange taste in my brain.
It is implied (though not made explicit) that a gay man (Crudup's character) can be turned straight. Again, in the topsy-turvy sexual environment of this film, nothing is certain. But it does seem to be reaching for that "reassuring" ending that no matter who sleeps with whom and what one dresses as, the boy and girl will find each other in the end.
