Review of St. Vincent (2014) by Timothy J — 04 Oct 2015
A 'rough' feel good movie in the vein of Gran Torino. A young mom/son move next door to a grumpy old man... Facing plenty of challenges in his life both economically and emotionally. The boy and old man are kindred spirits that become friends due to circumstances.
The boy learns perhaps through some surly means to toughen up and eventually learns the heroic story of his older friend. Together they help each other (as well as the mom and the lady friend) to all become better people.
.. Though certainly still flawed with the challenges of everyday life. Certainly the movie follows a stamped formula but the combination of good acting, characters, humor, sadness, and reality make this a worthwhile formula.
