Review of St Trinian's (2007) by Elaine M — 06 May 2009
In fear of having to attend a 'normal school', the anarchic girls of St. Trinian's plot a theft in order to save their somewhat dysfunctional school from bankruptcy. It is unfortunately the performances that are to blame for its average rating here- Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Russell Brand, and even Lena Headey (who is usually great) are all criminally unfunny in this supposed comedy, and considering what proportion of the film includes one or more of those four, to be honest you're not going to get a lot of laughs.
However, acting as this film's saviour is the unheard of (but soon to be a star if you ask me) Talulah Riley who thank God has the main character here, and does an amazing job. The storyline is pretty neat and tidy, there are some great moments of scripting (even if the delivery suffers at times), and the general concept is unfailingly enjoyable.
Forgettable, but harmless and probably worth seeing...
