Review of St. Elmo's Fire (1985) by Zoe H — 29 Mar 2008
I saw it again today. looks a little different than it did 23 years ago.
It's very stylish, and therefore it hasn't aged very gracefully. the stories are ok, but not nearly as good as the melodrama and style made it seem back then. or maybe the stories are good and the now cheesy melodrama overshadows their quality today.
Oh, my god the saxophone! the hair! the shoulderpads!
The acting is mediochre teenage actor, i'm so cool type acting.
I remembered being most moved by andrew mccarthy's character, and by mare winningham. and they do make the film for me.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone other than for the reason of having a good chuckle at what we used to wear back then.
