Review of Spy Game (2001) by Ross P — 31 Jan 2013
Scott's bravado often works but in Spy Game his style is too flashy, subtlety would have reinforced the screenplay and increased suspense. Sometimes the characters are enigmatic and I began to lose interest around the half way mark. Pitt and Redford are a great team, their scenes together are enough to carry the film, although their characters lack sufficient depth and emotions.
Too much time is spent on the partly irrelevant back story instead of the climax which is ultimately short lived. I had no anticipation during the build up to the end because the outcome was inevitable.
Spy Game's peccadilloes are easily ignored as long as you like Redford and Pitt. Most people do.
