Review of Spy Game (2001) by Ben F — 12 Jun 2010

"Spy Game" really was just a refreshing movie to watch. It was a straight to the point, cut the crap, spy movie. Not only was this movie entertaining, but a lot of the techniques that Tony Scott used are something that I find very remarkable. This movie was awesome.

Brad Pitt is in China in 1991, I think, and he is participating in an operation to free a prisoner out of the prison. Things go wrong, and Brad Pitt is taken captive. Robert Redford works for the CIA and it's his last day before he retires. The government learns that Redford has had a past relationship with Pitt, so they question him, searching for a reason to let the Chinese execute him in 24 hours, to prevent an international incident. Redford goes into detail about his relationship with Pitt, starting with Vietnam, and ending with Beirut in the 80's. The premise is original and intriguing, and this really did carry the movie.

Like I said before, the cinematography in this movie was fantastic. Tony Scott's shot placements are all amazing, from helicopter shots of Redford and Pitt on the roof, to them running in the streets of Lebanon, everything is filmed very professionally, and this helped the movie with it's intensity aspect.

I've now tried to submit a longer review 3 times but Facebook keeps messing up, so I'll just say this. I thought this movie was awesome. The cinematography and Scott's execution were all great. The chemistry and interaction between Pitt and Redford was excellent, giving us a old and new feel. Everything was well executed, and the film remained entertaining throughout. It was an intriguing, smart, witty, action packed, intense flick and I highly recommend it. My review would be longer but Facebook lost it so that's all. See "Spy Game.".
