Review of Spring Breakers (2013) by Johnrieber — 31 Mar 2013
"Spring Breakers" is in many way a revelation. Harmony Korine has decided to turn away from the pretentious "shock" of earlier films and has created a moody, hypnotic treatise on youth.
It evokes Soderbergh's brilliant "The Limey" in structure and tone, and the acting is terrific. The less you know the better, but there is a scene that is as uncomfortable and riveting as "Cape Fear"'s scene with Robert DeNiro and Juliette Lewis.
In fact, Franco could be channeling DeNiro's performance, but he is uniquely original as well.
