Review of Spring Breakers (2013) by Arthur D — 30 Dec 2013
One would do well not to be swayed by mixed reviews, expectations of the generic, or even that poster. What Harmony Korine delivers is one of the most unique films of the year. Energetic, highly stylized, and fitted with a bold soundtrack, Spring Breakers constantly burdens its audience with discomfort; torn between reacting with disgust or laughter at its fascinating characters and sensational situations.
You are meant to reflect inward and make your own judgments. All of this and a fascinating performance from James Franco are just part of why I really enjoyed this film more than most and definitely recommend it.
