Review of Spring Breakdown (2009) by Sam L — 26 Jun 2009
Amy Poehler is pleasant enough. I just wish Will Arnett (Poehler's RL husband) has more screen time, coz' they play off each other excellently.
Parker Posey is sweet, & a very comfortable lead. She has a universal appeal, guys don't feel intimidated, girls don't feel threatened. Works well here where she's a kind-hearted & terribly conservative soul.
Rachel Dratch is funny, yet creepy. I can't erase that mental picture of her in a moustache in Click. So it's all very strange to me. & when she was kissing the really hot guy in the movie, I felt really grossed out.
I liked Amber Tamblyn in Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, & I like her here. She's versatile enough, & she doesn't come across as bratty.
Poor Sophie Monk though. Her star has waned a long time now, yet she desperately refuses to let go, playing the token bitch/slut/bimbo in a slew of movies. From Bardot to this? It's sad, really.
Otherwise, it's a really quirky & feel good film. Can't go wrong with that!
