Review of Spotlight (2015) by Amanda C — 28 Mar 2016
An expertly crafted thriller, Spotlight has managed to make the tedium of investigative journalism exciting and nail biting. It helps that their investigation into sexual abuse in the Catholic church is suitably horrifying material.
Even knowing the story, the sheer numbers are staggering. All the investigators have some kind of stake in the church, which makes the story even more compelling. It wasn't a vendetta, but simply people who went where the evidence led them.
The cast is uniformly excellent further adding to the draw of the film. Spotlight is well deserving of its best picture win at the Oscars.
