Review of Spotlight (2015) by Alex D — 29 Apr 2016

I'm going to go out on a limb and confirm Spotlight as the best of the films I've seen that came out this past year. It's infuriating and heart breaking and masterfully done. Everything from the acting to the soundtrack was on point.

Additionally, it's a powerful document on the misuse of power and the inherent contradiction in a worldview that purports to care about humanity while at the same time promoting a hierarchy of abuse.

What's more, it speaks to a growing contingent of "lapsed Catholics" who have had enough of the hypocrisy. Even if you don't care about Catholicism, I highly recommend it as a movie about the power of humanistic journalism and the goodness of uncovering the truth.
