Review of Splendor in the Grass (1961) by Mike B — 26 Jul 2008
I am really surprised this movie isn't discussed more when it comes to late 50's early 60's cinema. Elia Kazan pieces together a multi-layered movie about adolescents, sex, social politics, and class culture, in a movie that is powered my Natalie Wood's brilliant performance.
While "Waterfront" and "Desire" get the Kazan praise, I think this film deserves equal credit as a beautiful and enthralling piece of work.
